Story up at Strange Horizons and new cover

September 8, 2009 by alaya 8 Comments

My domestic high fantasy story all about bread baking, “The Yeast of Eire” is now up at the online magazine Strange Horizons. Here’s the first paragraph:

“A few years ago we hosted a Teuton man-at-arms who, among his expected effects, also bore with him a giant silver goose. He had named this beast Tridanesus, which he alternately defined as either “bird of heaven’s feather” or “great man’s penis-pearl.”

Plus, I have the brand new cover of Moonshine:

This book is a must read! The plot is thrilling and a complete standalone amongst the competition. If you want to read about vampires as they’re supposed to be seen, this book is the perfect place to look. It’s also one of the most heart-wrenchingly accurate depictions of segregations in the early 1900’s I’ve ever read. It’s a fantastic story that will lead you begging for more like a vampire on Faust.

    Dear Marie–

I’m so glad you liked it! The second book’s publication date is a bit in flux at the moment, but is tentatively early 2012 (probably around February). I don’t know the title yet, unfortunately. But I’ll make a big announcement here when I have more information.

    Thanks!

I cant wait for the follow up, i feel like there is so much more i still need to know about Zephyr Hollis! and what happens with Amir and Judah, and Nicholas…oh hell i just need more of all of it!

Just finished your short story “Love Will Tear Him Apart” in the anthology Zombies vs. Unicorns and wanted to see what else you had done. I have to say if I had to go on cover art alone and had seen your 1st three books I probably would have steered clear– eek! Loved the story of Grayson and Jack, though. Very well written, and perhaps the 1st gay zombie story I’ve ever read. I liked it enough I’ve decided to try Moonshine, irritating teen audience grabbing cover and all. I’ve been a bit off vampires since frumpy grandmothers and suburban soccer moms became part of the Twilight phenomenon. I’m guessing from the cover art on the other two books I saw pictured they were for upper elementary? Hope to read more of your adult writing in the future.
